Grover G. Graham and Me

Grover is Great!
Grover G. Graham and Me is a great book about a boy named Ben. He lives with foster parents. His mom left him and he doesn't have any siblings. He has stayed with many different families but he becomes really attached to a baby boy in one of them. I really liked it because you always wanted to read on. Sometimes you were sort of worried about Ben and sometimes it was just a fun and happy story. Also you really got to know about the characters and what they would do. That is why I really liked the book!

Gwen John
Published in Paperback by Princeton Univ Pr (02 August, 1999)
Authors: Alicia Foster and Gwen John
Average review score:

'Gwen John' by Alicia Foster; a refreshing change
'Gwen John' by Alicia Foster is one of the most interesting books that exist on this somewhat enigmatic artist. Foster reviews Gwen John's paintings with coolness and objectivity. This is especially refreshing as some writers on the same subject have engulfed themselves in biographical detail. This text, however, focuses on biographical information only as and when necessary. Foster evaluates Gwen John's paintings with regard to her artistic training at the Slade School as well as the influence of her decision to spend most of her career in Paris. She analyses John's occupation as artists model, her Catholic faith and her subject matter. Discussion is also given to Gwen John's work in relation to other artists working in the early part of the twentieth century, giving insight into the world in which Gwen John lived and worked.

Foster considers both feminist and modernist evaluations of Gwen John's paintings whilst not adhering to either doctrine. At the same time she is able to present her research in concise and easily understood language. This text provides valuable insights for readers looking at early twentieth century portraiture. However it would also be an engaging and pleasurable read for anyone with an interest in art.

Fascinating, upbeat romance
Jack Dakota found out that he has a son from an eight year old liason. Dakota is a gamblin' man.

Enter Hallie Ryan, a scruffy young woman, trying to save her ranch. She has debts from a gamblin' father and a seventeen year old brother trying to follow in daddy's footsteps.

Dakota buys the ranch, Eden's Canyon, out from under Hallie. And being as how she knows more about ranching than Jack, he keeps her on to learn ropes.

Not too much angst, but an attraction that keeps growing stronger despite the differences that should keep them apart.

Hallie teaches Jack about the everyday running of a ranch and how to relate to his son, Ethan. Jack teaches Hallie to loosen up and enjoy some womanly pleasures and how to act in company.

And little by little Hallie's brother, Ben changes for the better and slowly a family is melded together through their supportive trials.

Definitely recommended - thoroughly enjoyable but ah well!

For Dan, it's an uncertain miracle which can change at any moment, and his past survival skills kick in to keep him at bay from his new family. beautifully written and interesting history of Fred Harvey
this is a fascinating account of the story of Fred Harvey and the Harvey House restaurants. You will discover that Fred Harvey truley won the west.He was an innovative thinker, and supplied to the people along the railway route somthing that they never had before, Good food and service, he was a perfectionist in every way. He also had the foresite to realize the untapped potential in the art of the native American by setting up shops in order for the Indians to be able to sell their beautiful handiwork. No one had ever done that before. The book is also intersperced with vintage recipies from the various Harvey Houses and railway cars. This book is beautifully written and very moving in many parts as you will find when you discover that one by one these landmards gradually disappeared with the advent of modern times.

Hearing God's Voice
Published in Audio Cassette by Brilliance Audio (November, 2002)
Authors: Richard Blackaby, Mel Foster, and Henry T. Blackaby
Average review score:

Great
I thought that this book was worth buying, I got a lot out of it. This book is about having a better relationship with God by learning to hear his voice, finding and following His will. It's a good book for new Christians and mature ones. They also ask the question if God talks to people today and if God has a will for every Christian's life, they present both arguments and give you their take, which I agree and that is that yes God has a will for your life. It talks about how to tell if something is from God or the devil. It also covers how God used to talk to people in the past as well as the present. I found the book easy to read, informative and helpful. I really think that the authors covered a lot of stuff and that they did their research.
